Two times we almost fell through the ice on the border between Yakutia and Chukotka, saw polar bears and ate condensed milk with snow.
Russian traveler Bogdan Bulychev and the guys from his team admit that they will remember this Arctic expedition for a long time. They quickly reached ordinary northern cars to the northernmost tip of Chukotka, setting a record for Russia.
On April 1, Bogdan Bulychev, a traveler and video blogger, arrived in Yakutsk with his team.
The travelers went on an expedition to the northern regions of Russia on February 25. They left Irkutsk, visited Lake Baikal, drove Severobaikalsk, Tynda, Neryungri, and then along the federal highway reached Yakutsk.
The most difficult part of the expedition began just in the capital of Yakutia. From here the auto travelers traveled to Ust-Nehru, then turned onto the Arctic winter road and reached the border of Yakutia and Chukotka. “We crossed the border not far from Chersky and reached Pevek, and then – to Cape Shelagsky. On the way back, we stopped in Magadan and in the village of Mylga, where I grew up. And straight from there we went to Yakutsk, ”said the head of the expedition, Bogdan Bulychev.
“Your region is interesting with winter roads, you have the largest number of such roads in the country. It gives endless possibilities to choose any route. If you take the road connecting Moscow and the Far East, then there are only two ways to get there, and in some places they converge on the same road. In your case, you can reach Chukotka with a huge number of winter roads through the uluses, small villages, along frozen rivers, ”said the project manager Bogdan Bulychev.
The most difficult moment of the expedition was hitting ice when all the participants of the trip had to be in icy water to pull out the cars. And travelers called meeting with polar bears one of the most memorable moments, they even managed to capture them in photos and videos. To meet animals in the wild is a great success, they say. Viewers will see these events in the film following the trip.
On the question of how travelers survived in extreme temperatures up to minus 47 degrees, Bulychev said: “As for clothing for expeditions, the most important thing here is manufacturability and layering. You all know that the Siberian is not the one who does not freeze, but the one who dresses warmly. For the night we had sleeping bags and tents, however, most of the time we slept in cars. We use a certain know-how: you need to take two sleeping bags – one for minus 45 degrees, the second for minus 16, and they should be synthetic, and not downy. ”
Achieving the northernmost point of Chukotka from the city of Pevek in cars will be the reason for applying to the Russian book of records. For this, expedition members will provide data from trackers, photos and video footage from a quadcopter.
