The head of Yakutia Yegor Borisov signed a decree establishing the Day of the Lena River, which is celebrated each year on July 2. As stated in the document, a day established to draw attention to the preservation of the river located on the unique natural features, as well as for the development and promotion of a national brand, based on the image of her and for the development of ecological tourism.
The Lena River, which originates at Lake Baikal and flows into the Laptev Sea, is the tenth in the world by length (4,400 kilometers) and the eighth overflowing. The area of its basin is 2.5 million square kilometers.
For the republic, it is an important transportation artery, on which the passenger transportation and delivery of goods in the northern delivery. On its shores are unique attractions – the oldest of the open in the Russian sites of primitive people Deering-Yuriakh and national Lena Pillars Nature Park.
